City Commuting on a Diamondback Bike

5 (of Many) Reasons to Start Biking

Published January 12, 2024 | Updated August 14, 2025

Cycling is more than just a mode of transportation. It’s a way to improve your health and give your mood a boost. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or just hopping in the saddle for the first time, you’ll benefit from it. Here are five reasons you should take up cycling today.

1. Improve Your Health

Biking is a cardiovascular exercise that improves your stamina and helps you maintain a healthy weight. It also reduces your risk of chronic diseases, like heart disease and diabetes. Your mental health benefits from it, too. As you ride, your body releases endorphins, effectively boosting your mood and lowering your stress levels. Breaking home from work is a great way to release the stress of the work day and shift back into relaxation mode.

2. Low Cost & Low Carbon

Cycling is one of the most eco-friendly modes of transportation, along with walking. Instead of worrying about carbon emissions, you can invest all the money you'll save on gas into a fantastic carbon frame! There's no need to fill the tank or pay for parking, and repairs and maintenance are much cheaper than on a car.

3. Easier Commuting

You won’t spend hours each week in gridlock traffic or on crowded public transportation. You can leave on your own timeline instead of rushing to meet the bus, while also avoiding the frustrations of parking. Commuting on a bike can get you to your destination much quicker. Just be sure to wear the right safety gear and follow the rules of the road.

4. Foster a Sense of Community

Well there's no obligation to be social, cycling quite possibly means you'll end up meeting like-minded individuals who turn into lifelong friends. Then you can share tips and tricks with each other and ride or compete together.

5. Tons of New Adventures

Lastly, cycling opens you up to countless adventures. There are tons of roads and trails you can explore all over the world, from scenic routes to urban exploration. There’s no shortage of things to see or memories to be made. So hop in the saddle and get riding!
