The 2024 Santa Cruz Megatower C 2 R handles steep, rough terrain without flinching, the It's designed for aggressive downhill riding. The suspension, drivetrain, wheels, and brakes are all selected to keep you in control, fast, and confident. The R model is a more affordable build kit, but still with high quality components.
Suspension
The Megatower 2 R uses a RockShox Super Deluxe Select shock sized at 230x62.5mm. That translates to a generous 170mm of rear travel. Plenty to smooth out the landings from big airtime. Up front, the RockShox Zeb Base fork matches that 170mm travel. It specializes in stability at speed and obstacle dodging. With this combo, rough trails will feel more manageable and unexpected obstacles less punishing.
Drivetrain
Shifting is handled by a SRAM NX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain. Precise and dependable, it covers the steep climbs and fast descents with equal skill. The 11-50 tooth cassette spreads out a wide gear range to suit every trail scenario. The SRAM Descendant Eagle 148 DUB crankset keeps your pedaling efficient and sturdy enough for pushing hard. Its 32-tooth chainring strikes a balance between power and control, while the DUB bottom bracket ensures your pedal strokes transfer energy smoothly into forward motion.
Wheels and tires
When it comes to wheels and tires in downhill riding, grip and durability rule the day. A Maxxis Assegai 29"x2.5" tire sits out front, using the 3C MaxxGrip compound for sticky traction and an EXO+ casing for protection against tears and punctures. The back tire is a Maxxis Minion DHR II 29"x2.4" with 3C MaxxTerra compound, offering solid braking grip and cornering stability that nicely complements the front tire. RaceFace AR Offset 30 rims provide the strength to back these tires, balancing lightness with toughness to avoid flats and keep things responsive. SRAM hubs round out the setup, built to survive high-impact trail abuse while spinning smoothly.
Brakes
You'll also find a set of SRAM G2 RE brakes with four pistons. They deliver a consistent and strong bite while letting you dial in exactly how much braking you want. For tricky descents or sudden stops, they give control without surprises.
Cockpit
The cockpit features an e13 TRS Base handlebar alongside an e13 Base stem. Both feel solid and precise, helping you steer confidently on rough ground.
