The 2024 Santa Cruz Tallboy 5 C GX AXS is made with trail riders in mind. It handles everything you throw at it, from tough climbs to fast, flowing singletrack. The frame geometry balances control and agility so you can pedal efficiently uphill and descend with confidence.
The frame is lightweight, strong C-level carbon from Santa Cruz. While C is the "lower" end carbon frame that SC offers, it's still a durable, stiff, vibration-absorbing frame material that's rideable and fully enjoyable in all kinds of conditions.
The suspension setup keeps the ride smooth and controlled. Out back, the FOX Float Performance Elite shock balances support and responsiveness, making technical descents more manageable without sacrificing pedaling efficiency. Up front, you can pick between FOX 34 Float Performance Elite or RockShox Pike Select+ forks, both with 130mm of travel. Both offer precise handling and soak up trail chatter well.
Shifting happens through the SRAM GX Eagle AXS drivetrain. Wireless and reliable, it lets you switch gears smoothly across a 12-speed range even under load. The 10-52t wide-range cassette ensures you have the right gear for steep ascents and speedy descents, while the Flattop chain adds strength and keeps things running quietly.
Power transfer is solid thanks to the SRAM GX Eagle DUB T-Type crankset with a 32t chainring. Together with the SRAM DUB 73mm bottom bracket, it delivers a stiff, efficient platform so your pedal strokes translate directly to forward motion.
Handling is smooth and responsive because of the Cane Creek 40 IS headset, which helps when the trail gets technical. The 800mm Santa Cruz Carbon handlebar is wide enough for control but offers good vibration damping to save your hands. The 42mm Burgtec Enduro MK3 stem adds stability without slowing your steering inputs.
Traction comes from Maxxis Forekaster 29"x2.4" tires with 3C MaxxTerra compound and EXO casing. They grip a variety of surfaces well, whether the trail is loose dirt or wet and rooty.
The wheels match the bike’s rugged nature. RaceFace ARC Offset 30 rims provide tire support with a wide profile while staying lightweight. DT Swiss 370 hubs roll smoothly and mesh well with SRAM Level Bronze Stealth 4-piston brakes for consistent stopping power and modulation.
Comfort isn’t forgotten. The WTB Silverado Medium saddle feels good over long rides, and the OneUp V2 Dropper Post makes seat height adjustments a snap. You also have options for Reverb Stealth or Fox Transfer posts if you prefer.
